Philosophy
The Academy of Construction Technologies (ACT), a partnership between the Seminole County School Board and Central Florida construction industry contractors and trade associations, was instituted to develop a well-trained workforce in the construction industry by integrating academics and a paid work-site experience — offering students the opportunity to begin a rewarding career while in high school.
Facilities and Resources
Academic, lab and on-the-job training for ACT is conducted at Seminole State College’s state-of-the-art facilities. All other, traditional high school classes are held at the student’s home school.
On-the-Job-Training through ACT qualifies as hours worked towards earning a journeyman certificate, as well as high school elective credits and adult apprenticeship training credits. Students can also earn college credit.
Instruction
The Academy of Construction Technologies is offered to 11th and 12th grade students. ACT uses curricula developed by industry professionals and the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) in five specific trade areas:
